When you purchase a set of blinds, it’s important you do your utmost to ensure their longevity. This means maintaining them and keeping up a regular cleaning schedule, as well as getting to know their functionality, so you can ensure they work properly.
For example, you need to ensure you know how to close blinds properly, depending on the type you purchase. Fortunately for you, at Solaire Blinds, we’ve explained it all in our blog below. Read on to find out how to close blinds – depending on the type you purchase, below…
How to close venetian blinds
Venetian blinds have two operating modes. Firstly, a tilt wand which allows you to turn the slats clockwise or counterclockwise, providing you with the ability to filter the slats so you can let in as much light as you want. Twist them all one way for complete privacy, or partially to provide light flow.
The second operating mode of a venetian blind is its set of cords. These allow you to move the blinds upwards and downwards. If you’d like to let some air flow, open pull the cord gently until the blinds move halfway up the window.
How to close shutter blinds
Unlike other blinds, shutter blinds are much easier to operate. If you have a central tilt rod, the slats are connected to each other, and you can tilt the rod to open and close them. At Solaire Blinds, you can even choose our easy tilt option to open and close the slats with just your finger tip.
Remember, close your blinds upward to ensure complete privacy when in upstairs rooms, as people on the ground floor could potentially peer inside. This was further supported by a carpenter on TikTok, whose experiment revealed people on the ground floor could potentially see into those with shutter blinds on the top floor – when the shutters faced downwards.
How to close motorised blinds
Perhaps the simplest of all blinds to operate, closing motorised blinds is simple. To do so, with your remote device simply press the close button. You can do this from anywhere in the room, as long as you’re near the blinds.
If you have a wall switch, closing the blinds is simply a matter of following the instructions on the switch.
How to close day and night blinds
To close day and night blinds, you need to roll the blinds up or down. This will move the fabric on both the front and back of the tube – meaning you’re able to align the stripes however you wish.
For a ‘blockout’ effect and complete closure of the blinds, have the series of opaque stripes aligned in a row.
How to close roller blinds
There are two main ways to close roller blinds, depending on if they have a cord or not.
If they have a cord, pull it until the blind is completely lowered for full closure. If they are cordless, pull down the bottom bar of the blind until it’s closed.
Why should you close blinds?
Closing your blinds holds more importance than you might initially think. For example, you can benefit from increased:
Privacy
One of the reasons why closing your blinds is important is for the sake of your privacy. Keeping yourself and your family out of plain sight, whilst being able to control the light flow in the room is just one of the benefits of closing your blinds.
Light filtering
As mentioned, closing your blinds offers you the ability to control the amount of light that enters your room. As opposed to curtains, which block out light completely, blinds provide the option of filtering light in depending on the time of day.
Heat control
Closing your blinds can also provide heat control in your home. For example, it allows the rooms in your home to retain heat during the colder months. Meanwhile, in the summer, it blocks out sunlight to keep rooms cooler.
